Tomorrow is it: the day The Color Spectrum is released. We’ve been waiting for this for quite a long time. Many of you have doubtlessly ordered the vinyl set, with others waiting to buy the mp3s. At least one or two of you are crazy enough to have done both.
If you’re reading this, it’s because you’re already a fan of The Dear Hunter. You’ve been converted. There are many others who have never heard of TDH. Wouldn’t it be a great way to celebrate the Colors’ release by spreading the word?
So, that’s what we’re going to do: we’re going to promote the everliving hell out of The Color Spectrum. Tomorrow, 6/14, is Visible Spectrum Day.
What does that mean? It means you need to get on all those newfangled social networking sites and tell your friends about The Dear Hunter and The Color Spectrum. Encourage people to buy the set; if not the full package, at least the 11 track sampler or an EP or two. Post videos, like the live recording of We’ve Got A Score to Settle. Maybe post two or three, to show the diversity of the songs.
mp3s: Let’s try to get this on some charts. High sales give more exposure, which will lead to more sales and therefore more exposure. We’ve decided to ask people to buy their digital versions from Amazon mp3 and not iTunes. Links to the two versions of the album are at the bottom of this post. Also note that there are two songs you can download for free (Deny It All and Lost But Not All Gone).
Facebook: We’ll have another post tomorrow explaining what the project is, with links to some of the tracks and so on. Tell your friends! You can also RSVP to the release.
Twitter: Tweet using the hashtag #colorspectrum. Follow @lakeandtheriver, @therealTDH and @caseycrescenzo and retweet as much as you feel comfortable. Don’t spam your timeline: we don’t want people thinking TDH and its fans are a bunch of dickbags. Retweets count more heavily towards making a hashtag trend than individual tweets, though, so we’d appreciate it if you’d at least spare an RT during the day.
Reddit: We’re going to post a link to the Amazon mp3 page in /r/music, and a video in /r/listentothis. We’ll link to these posts tomorrow: we’d love some upvotes if you’re a Redditor. Again, we must reiterate: we are not trying to spam. If you use Reddit, and you like TDH, you’d probably want to upvote the posts no matter what. Do not make multiple accounts to upvote with, and don’t spam the comments section. If you have something to add to the conversation, please do.
That’s about it. The general idea is that we, as a group, all start talking about The Color Spectrum in as many places as possible and to anyone who will listen. If we all do it at roughly the same time, we can hopefully attract more attention and therefore start a feedback loop of exposure. We can’t do this without you, so please: let’s make this Spectrum visible.
